Raspberries are considered as super foods because of their high nutrient density, thus making them beneficial as they can be used as food and at the same time used for medicinal purposes. Raspberries are rich in the following components: Antioxidants, anthocyanins, flavonols, tannins, flavanols, minerals and vitamins among others making them very useful to the body thus need to take more of them.
Uses of raspberries
Weight management; weight loss is one of the most challenging procedures to go through successfully for individuals who are obese or overweight. These fruits are rich in soluble fiber which makes water unavailable for the process of digestion thus releasing fewer calories to the body. This will force the body to breakdown fats (adipose tissues) in order to meet its energy demands. On the other hand, these fruits are known to increase the rate of metabolism when consumed. Increase of metabolic rate will lead to increased fat loss and finally weight loss which is important for overweight and obese individuals.
Anti cancer properties; raspberries are very rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients and anti-inflammatory properties which are important in altering the process of cancer cell reproduction and development. These components can also have an effect on the already existing cancer cells by changing or altering the signals that are usually relayed unto these cells. This will eventually lead unto the death of some of these cells in a process called apoptosis.
Blood sugar regulation
When used, these fruits reduce the production or activity of adiponectin which is a key substance when it comes to blood sugar levels. This is important especially to those people who are suffering from diabetes type 2.
Vitamins and minerals source
They are rich in these important micronutrients which are required by the body for example vitamin C, vitamin K, Magnesium, potassium and vitamin E among others. These components are essential as they are used in regulating and controlling various biological processes in the body.
